Anne-Laure Vandeputte

Anne-Laure Vandeputte (1993) is a theatre maker, writer, filmmaker and actor. She graduated with highest distinction as an actor from the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp in 2016. She has since performed on stage with Lisaboa Houbrechts, Fc Bergman, Lies Pauwels, SKaGeN, De Roovers, Laika and Zuidpool, and appeared in series and films such as Grenslanders, De Bende van Jan de Lichte, Red Light, Drift and Copain, a film selected for the Cannes Film Festival. In the series Breendonk, which recently premiered at Film Fest Gent, she plays one of the leading roles as Elisabeth Huysens.

As a maker, Vandeputte focuses on stories that are inherently present in our lives. What political complexity does a body carry, and how is that complexity represented in our culture of storytelling and imagery? To what extent does this shape our view of others? To what extent does it shape our self-image? And to what extent does it steer our actions? She likes to call this an investigation into the theatricality of reality. Vandeputte's work as a maker begins with an attempt to grasp these narratives and social structures, in order to question them and then offer a performative proposal for an alternative. 

After the short performances Ribben, Oerhoer and her graduation piece Gif, Vandeputte made her first full production, Millennialism, in 2019, which Focus Knack tipped as one of the best performances of that year. She also took on the final direction of Vier sterren, a performance by theatre group herman. 

Following a long research period, Vandeputte's musical concert performance My Body as a Commodity premiered in 2025. The performance plays with the boundary between fact and fiction and interrogates victimhood, sexual violence and the roles assigned to women's bodies. My Body as a Commodity received acclaim from critics in Flanders and the Netherlands and was selected for both the Flemish and the Dutch Theatre Festival. 

She is currently working on her new performance project Who's Your Daddy? and on the script for a film adaptation of My Body as a Commodity. 

Vandeputte has also been an acting teacher at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp since 2020, where she is a member of the Acting and Making department.
